St. Vincent, is an island country in the Caribbean, located in the southeast Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, which lie in the West Indies. From April 9th, there has been a series of eruptions from the La Soufriere volcano, with ash raining heavily on the entire island as well as neighboring islands, such as Barbados. This has caused damage to houses, buildings and farm fields. The UN reports that about 4,000 displaced people are living in 87 shelters set up by the St. Vincent Government. Thousands more are staying in private homes of family and friends on the other end of the island. There have also been evacuations to surrounding island nations. In addition, on April 29th, there were heavy rains, causing flooding and mudslides that damaged some homes. As Christ Embassy Christian Center, we have initiated relief efforts to St. Vincent, in the form of non-perishable food stuffs and cash contributions.
